Members of our newly formed Igniting Youth Potential Society have committed to ensuring the stability and long-term health of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County through a planned gift. The IYP Society is our way of saying thank you for remembering BBBS-Mercer in your estate plans.

To join, just fill out and submit this form to let us know that you have included BBBS-Mercer in your will or as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy.

You may also print and mail the form to the Director of Development, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County, 535 E. Franklin Street, Trenton, NJ 08610.

Unless otherwise designated by you, Society gifts will be added to the BBBS-Mercer Board-directed Rainy-Day Fund.

In addition to being able to take great pride in ensuring the sustainability of BBBS-Mercer, Society members enjoy:

  • Special recognition at an annual event to celebrate IYP Society members. At the event, new members are presented with an elegant lapel pin, in honor of their lasting contribution to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County.

  • Recognition in organizational communications, including on our website, in our annual report, and through features in our newsletter.

  • Recognition in our annual Autumn Culinaire Journal

  • Proprietary admission to certain BBBS-Mercer events.

There are several ways IYP members can support BBBS-Mercer:

  • A Required Minimum Distribution (RMD): if you are age 72 or older, IRS rules require you to take minimum distributions (RMDs) each year from your tax-deferred retirement accounts. Amounts distributed as a direct transfer of funds to a qualified nonprofit such as BBBS-Mercer will be counted toward satisfying your RMD for the year and allow you to save on your taxable income!

  • A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from a retirement account is another way to support BBBS-Mercer as soon as age 70 ½. BBBS-Mercer supporters can still make Qualifying Charitable Contributions at age 70 ½ in amounts up to $100,000 per year.

  • More interested in a planned gift? Consider these major ways our members give:

  • Wills & Trusts: The easiest way to make a planned gift is to name Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County as the beneficiary for a specific amount or percentage of your estate. This may be done by adding a codicil to an existing will. Specific instructions can be provided by your lawyer, estate planner, or tax advisor.

  • Retirement Plans & Life Insurance: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County may be named as a beneficiary of an existing insurance policy, IRA, or another qualified retirement plan.

  • Other Ways to Give: These include charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, and retired life estate.

Your legacy can have an impact, too. A planned gift to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County ensures the continuation of our landmark mentoring programs and creates your own legacy of support.
